DesignOps Experience: The Magnolia App

In July of 2021, I led a team of remote designers to launch the first ever Magnolia app - which is a digital destination that allows fans to shop, watch curated content on Magnolia Network, and learn how to master recipes and workshops.

Being a remote team during peak pandemic, I realized quickly from the start that I needed to implement processes and checkpoints along the way to ensure target design deadlines and timelines were met.

Design Timelines and Processes

Using JIRA and google sheets, I created a design tracker and kanban board for concurrent work streams that spanned multiple platforms such as ios/tvos, android, web and other ctv platforms so that our design team as well as the product managers can have a purview of upcoming features in the roadmap.

Editorial Style Guides and Templates

While focusing on the UI/UX of the consumer facing product is important, also equally important are the images and content to populate the platforms. Working with the editorial team and content managers, I helped develop a style guide and template for the marketing team to create a set of artwork asset sizes for each show. Knowing from the developer’s standpoint, it’s best practice to optimize these graphics and make sure that these are streamlined and can be resized dynamically across the platforms.
